YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE AFRAID TO SWALLOW YOUR OILS, YOU JUST HAVE TO BE SMART ABOUT IT
Applying your oils topically is easy.
Diffusing is easy.
And you can easily ingest oils.
But how do I easily ingest them?
There are several ways to easily ingest your oils. The quickest is to just put 1-2 drops under your tongue. But for me “quick” is not always easy. I never know if I’ve put 1 drop or 10 drops unless I look in a mirror while I’m doing it. Have you ever tried to look in the mirror while putting drops under your tongue? It’s quite amusing the angle that you have to take to see yourself while tilting your head back. Try it, you’ll see. And if you are using an oil like Peppermint you definitely don’t want to put 10 drops under your tongue! On the bright side you will have fresh breath for a week. But on a serious note, essential oils can irritate your digestive tract so you may want to dilute your oils and limit them to a few drops per day.
You can also add it to your water, NingXia Red, or Protein Shake (click here for a great recipe). You will want to make sure that you are using a glass bottle if you are putting oils into your drink. If you use a straw, make sure that it is glass or stainless steel. Why, you ask? Because essential oils will eat away at the plastic and then you will ingest plastic! Gross. I love the mason jars below but note that they do have plastic straws so you will need to replace the straws when you mix essential oils with your drink.
I like to use vegetable capsules for the quickest delivery system as well as the best control over how many drops I’m getting. You can put the oil directly into the capsule along with a carrier oil if you want to dilute it. I like to use V-6 Vegetable Oil because it can be easily pumped into the capsule. You can make 1 capsule at a time or you can make several and store them in the freezer or refrigerator. You might want to make a few at a time until you find a combination that works for you.
How to Fill Your Capsule
- Choose your oil – I recommend using Young Living Vitality essential oils because they are labeled with dietary instructions. I only recommend using Young Living Essential Oils because you know they are safe, high quality oils. See the Seed to Seal Commitment here.
- Optional – Fill your capsule about 1/4 way with a carrier oil. I recommend V-6 Vegetable Oil because it’s easy to pump directly into the capsule. But you can also use Olive Oil or Avocado Oil. You can add those to a bottle with a pump or use a dropper to easily add the oil. Diluting your essential oil will make it easier on your body so that you avoid any irritation.
- Add 1-2 drops of Essential Oil.
- Put the capsule back together.
- Swallow immediately or store in the refrigerator or freezer.
If you are making several capsules at a time I would recommend getting a Capsule Holding Tray. You will want to store them in the refrigerator or freezer so that the capsule doesn’t begin to break down.
What about the use of essential oils if I have a medical condition? Can essential oils interact with prescription medications?
If you have a disease or medical condition or are using a prescription medication, it is recommended that prior to using an essential oil, you consult with a health care adviser who has experience with essential oils. Seek the advice of the prescribing physician and a pharmacist about potential interactions between any medication and essential oils.
Can essential oils be used during pregnancy or while nursing?
As with any medical condition, we strongly recommended that prior to using essential oils, you seek the advice and recommendation of a competent, trained health care adviser who is experienced in essential oil usage. Some people choose to avoid overuse and excessive use of Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea), Sage (Salvia officinalis), Idaho Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare), Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis), Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), and Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens), as well as the blends and supplements that contain these oils.
What’s the difference between Young Living’s traditional essential oils and Vitality™ essential oils?
Young Living’s large product line includes items that you can use in nearly any aspect of your life. These products are generally labeled for topical/aromatic, dietary, or cleaning usage. While all our oils meet our Seed to Seal® promise and exacting testing for purity and safety, our traditional essential oils are intended for topical/aromatic use, and our Vitality oils are intended for internal consumption. This distinction allows Young Living and our members to freely share the dietary and culinary benefits of our oils, thanks to Vitality’s clearly labeled dietary instructions.
How will you ingest your oils?
Under your tongue? I would love to hear from you if you find a way to successfully put 1-2 drops under your tongue. I do it when I’m in a hurry and it’s my only option, but it is definitely not my favorite method.
In your favorite beverage? I love to put 1 drop of lemon and 1 drop of lime in my water. Another favorite is 1 drop of peppermint. It can support healthy gut function and digestive efficiency.
In a capsule? I like to make a batch of these Boosting capsules for the week so that I can easily take one each morning.
2 Drops Lemon Vitality – has cleansing and detox properties
1 Drop Peppermint Vitality – aids in digestion
3 Drops Grapefruit Vitality – supports your weight-management program
However you decide to ingest your oils, make sure that you are doing it safely. Always check with you doctor first. Experiment with your favorites and share your recipes with me.
